| How I can apply for a longterm visa in Egypt ? |
Note: There are different visa in Egypt. Here we explain only the standard procedure for people want to stay longer than 30 days. This requires an extended "longterm tourist visa". A "residential visa" will not be explained as this visa is not required for foreigners to live in Egypt.
(Note: Even for buying a property a "residential visa" is not required. But, if you want to work legal in Egypt, you need a "work permission", which will not be explained here.)
"Longterm tourist visa" for stays up to 1 year:
The "Longterm tourist visa" can be applied by most citizens of the European Union (EU) and America without any problems. There are exceptions for some citizens of new EU member states. Citizens from Russia, Asia and South America have hampered application conditions which will not be explained here.
Procedure:
You need a passport, which is valid for the entire period of stay. A simple ID card is not enough !
On arrival in Egypt you have to buy the simple tourist visa (blue stamp). (This you have to do also, if you want to stay only on the Sinai Peninsula.)
Before the expiry of this visa you have to apply for the "Longterm tourist visa", in order not to have to leave Egypt again.
For the application of the "Longterm tourist visa" you need your passport, a copy of your passport, a copy of the visa in your passport and a photo of you and of course money to pay. Payment can only be made in Egyptian Pounds. The price is around 70 LE.
The "Longterm tourist visa" you can apply in Cairo and El Tor.
Cairo: The visa authority is located in Downtown Cairo, building "Mugamma" at Tahir Square.
El Tor: El Tor is a small town about 1 hour drive from Sharm el Sheikh away. You can go by private car, taxi or (recommended) by bus (El Gouna bus company). In El Tor you can ask for the visa office. The most people know where to find it.
In the visa office you will fill out a form. This form, your passport, the copies and photo you have to submit to a counter in this office. After approximately 1 -2 hours, you will receive your passport with the "Longterm tourist visa" in it. (Take something to drink with you. It is usually very hot there !)
A "Longterm tourist visa" can be applied for maximum up to 1 year. Would you like to stay longer in the country, apply just before the expiry of the visa a new one again.
| What will happen with my longterm tourist visa, when I travel outside from Egypt ? |
Please note: If you want to leave Egypt during your longtime stay, you need a "re-entry visa".
If you do not care for a "re-entry visa" before you leave Egypt, you need to buy a new 30-day tourist visa on arrival and your "longterm tourist visa" expires. For the "re-entry visa" you can apply in Cairo and El Tor as the "longterm tourist visa". You will need your passport and copies. A photo is not required. Note that the "re-entry visa" will be issued for a maximum of 6 months. So get the "re-entry visa" shortly before your departure, that it will be for sure still valid.
