| Visa information for Egypt |
Travelling to Egypt requires an ID card or passport with validity of not less than 6 months upon entry to Egypt.
We recommend a passport (also a temporary passport) - this is easier to handle and the entry to Egypt is not so complicated to handle.
Since february 2002 it's for travelling with touristic purpose also allowed to entry with only an ID card. But you still need a visa.
For children under 16 years you need a children passport with a foto or an notice about the children in the passport of the parents (up 3 years with foto of the children).
If you will entry to Egypt with only your ID card, you have to fill out a special entry card.
This card will be stamped and taken by the costums. Instead of this card you will get a big yellow "Immigration Card" with your foto.
The visa can be applied through Egyptian embassies / consulates. The application process needs around 3 - 5 working days. As tourist with arrival via sea or land route you need the visa in advance. As tourist with arrival via air you can get your visa on arrival at the airport for 15$ (ca. 20,- EUR).
Special conditon for Sharm el Sheikh:
For touristic purposes in Sharm el Sheikh you don't need a visa. This includes a journey to Mt. Moses and St. Catherine Monastery. But for travelling to Dahab, Taba, ouside of peninsula Sinai, Nile Cruises and diving in Ras Mohahmed and wrecks Thistlegorm and Dunraven you need a visa.

| Climate & weather in Egypt |
The best travel time to Upper Egypt (area around Luxor and Aswan) and Nile cruises are the months from October to March. The climate is all time dry and hot, however it can become very cold at the night in the winter. In the summer the temperatures go over 40°C.
Holiday in the beach resorts at the Red Sea is possible the whole year.
For beach holiday at the Mediterranean coast and in Alexandria we recommend the months from May to Septembers. In autumn it's raining here and it can become also very cold in the winter. |
